British Studies Reflection
I am so blessed to have been
chosen to experience British Studies. I fell in love with
England.
Everything from the people, to the scenery, made me feel like I found a
home away from home.
This experience reinforced
my previous aspiration to pursue Law and International
Business. I realized I love to travel and experience the varied cultures
of the world. More importantly, I found the sociological aspect of
traveling to be exceptionally intriguing. All cultures have fashioned
their society in a way to avoid total chaos, some with more success than
others, but all have taken similar ideals and created a system of their
own. Even in simply comparing England
to the United States,
we see England
is modernizing, much as the United States,
but is continuing to preserve tradition and keep a more conservative
government and culture. The legal system of a nation, or culture, is
where the foundation for societal commonality begins. I want to be a part
of the binding of people in a universal way, through our legal systems,
in our mutual commerce.
Seeing Parliament was
definitely my highlight. It was so surreal. I never
thought it would be as magnificent and breath taking as it proved to be.
Parliament shaped England
into the beautiful place we see today. Of course, the monarchy had
tremendous impact on the development of this country, but the members of
Parliament now hold the power to take their country to the level they
bestow upon it.
Before England, I only had a vague idea of
what exactly I wanted to study and do. Now I have experiences to back up
my ambition. Everything I want to be is definite now. I know everything
is possible, now it is up to me to make my dreams reality.
I made friends who would
have never met, had it not for British Studies. I am
still in contact with most everyone I met. I had so much fun. Coming home
was so bitter sweet. The benefits of this program are so immense, and I
am truly thankful for everyone at the British American Business Council
for everything they do, and especially giving me this great opportunity.
