Journey To Great Britain
by Luis Milla – ACS Student 2006
“Amazing” is only one of the few words I can use
to describe my trip to Great Britain. My whole experience there
was more
than what I expected it to be. The people that I met from different
parts of the world were absolutely great. There were students
from Holland, Britain, Singapore, and the United States. They
are part of the reason I had such a great time. I was able
to have conversations with them during the daily trips and
during our study groups. I still keep in touch with the people
from my trip through e-mails, and I hope that will continue
for a long time.
Among the places that we visited, I was most
impressed with the Globe Theater, Harrods, and the coastal
city of Brighton. At the Globe Theater we saw the play
Anthony and Cleopatra and got the feel of how people in the 17th Century used
to view plays. There wasn’t a roof on the Globe, and the audience was
able to stand in front of the stage and have a close up view the play. That
made the
play even better as I could have basically touched the actors. Harrods was
outstanding as well. The department store, Harrods, is a building like a mall
that has basically
everything that you would want. There was merchandise from all over the world,
a lot of designer clothing shops, toys for kids, jewelry, and places to eat.
It’s THE place to shop. Brighton was a beautiful place to visit along
the English Channel. It was busy with tourists, small shops, pubs, sandwich
shops,
and clothing stores. We spent a great deal of time in town and later went to
the beach and relaxed. It was a gorgeous place, and since the weather was so
nice, it made it even more perfect.
During our time back at ACS Cobham we spent
most of our time reflecting over the things we had done during our trip that
day. We either wrote about the
subjects regarding the history of Britain or spoke about them in a group.
Whether it was
about the Holocaust or about Trench Warfare, it was interesting to see how
everyone had his or her own view and opinion about everything.
Having seen
and experienced everything that I have, I would absolutely
recommend it to anyone who would want to know about different
cultures. I never would
have expected things to go the way they went, and I am thankful that they
did. There
is so much to learn, to experience, and to have fun with. It has been one
of the best experiences in my life.
